Anchorage Assembly

From Anchorage Youth Vote, this is Next Gen in Politics. A podcast series dedicated to increasing youth awareness and understanding of local government, through interviews and conversations led by our youth participants.

For our first episode, we’re talking about the Anchorage Assembly. Our guests are Christopher Constant, the chair and presiding officer of the assembly, and Jesse Tyrell, who serves as its youth representative.

A junior at Polaris K-12, Tyrell has been in his role for just under a year, where he holds an honorific vote and participates in discussions as a liaison to the youth of Anchorage. Constant has been on the assembly since 2017.

They sat down with Youth Vote member Edison Wallace-Moyer to talk about the work the assembly does, how Jesse’s position provides a voice for youth, and how others can get involved in matters that affect the entire community.

Hosted by Mika Bell.

Theme music by Kendrick Whiteman.

Produced by Alaska Teen Media Institute.

For more information on applying to the Youth Representative position, go to the Municipality of Anchorage’s Assembly Youth Representative page.

The Assembly meets at least twice a month at the Loussac Library, usually on Tuesdays at 5pm, and all Assembly items are open to three-minute public comments, including by youth and those not eligible to vote.
